About Us

Norton College is a specialist secondary day school, owned and operated by Crucible Education Limited, for students aged 11–19.

Our Students

Our students have all found learning in traditional school environments challenging and have not benefitted from the experience. In many cases, their previous educational experiences have resulted in disappointment and disaffection. Their needs are often complex and are associated with social, emotional and behavioural issues that are invariably highlighted through the ‘Statementing’ process. We also work successfully with youngsters who have difficulties around Autism.

Norton College has been specifically designed for young people who need an alternative to mainstream education. Our educational methods stem from our philosophy of nurturing students through warmth and compassion rather than authoritarianism.

Our Learning Styles and Teaching Methods

We are able to create learning styles and teaching methods to suit the individual needs of our students. For each student, we also create an individual learning package tailored to his or her specific educational needs and ambitions. Our aim is to remove the barriers to learning and to build students’ confidence by creating a “can do” atmosphere rather than “can’t do” atmosphere. Together we can work positively towards their goals and increase their opportunities, improve their wellbeing, and look forward to a positive future.

Every student is encouraged to make the most of their experiences and education at Norton. Using our unique educational methods, we aim to transform young peoples’ opportunities to transform their outcomes.

Our Facilities

The Norton College building is a fully refurbished office and factory space of 66,000 square feet. This entire area has been converted into a bespoke learning environment to provide some of the best academic and vocational facilities in the country for the young people we support.  These facilities are designed to be flexible allowing us to respond quickly to the changing needs of the students.

What We Offer

We are authorised by Ofsted to offer up to 80 full time places and offer Nationally recognised academic courses including Functional Skills, GCSE’s and A levels. Students are also able to achieve NOCN’s (National Open College Network) qualifications in a range of vocational areas.

We are also able to provide tailor made home study packages that enable youngsters with issues around social integration etc to receive their entitlement in the security of their home.

We also have extensive links with local mainstream Colleges and training providers that enable us to enhance the students experiences and not only introduce them to new skills but also to allow them to experience a wider social setting in preparation for their future placements.

We also offer vocational provision for young people up to 25 years of age and can provide bespoke day packages for students referred by other schools, colleges and Local Authorities.

These packages are specifically and individually designed to complement their learning at their own school.
