A Strong Start to 2026 at Norton College Worcester

Investing in Staff and Inspiring Students

On 5th January, we launched the new term with an engaging and inspiring INSET day. The training was informative, practical, and even fun setting the tone for a successful year ahead.

Quality of Education
Staff explored adaptive practice and effective modelling, led by Andy Moore, Deputy Headteacher. Through creative activities and a model lesson colleagues learned how breaking complex ideas into manageable steps supports deeper understanding. This approach will help us tailor learning so every student, aged 11–19, can thrive.

Careers Education
We focused on Gatsby Benchmark 4, strengthening links between curriculum and careers. Staff reflected on how to highlight transferable skills in every subject. To support this, we’re introducing a Job of the Week initiative, helping students see the real-world relevance of their learning.

Safeguarding
Training reinforced confidence in whistleblowing, recognising low-level concerns, and using updated reporting systems. Through case studies and discussion, staff strengthened their ability to maintain a safe, supportive environment for all pupils.

Trauma-Informed Practice
Staff explored how early experiences shape behaviour and engagement. We celebrated the positive impact of structured routines and shared strategies to help students feel secure, understood, and ready to learn.

Evidence for Learning
Finally, staff revisited best practice for submitting high-quality evidence, ensuring consistency and clarity across the school.

This investment in professional development means our students benefit from adaptive teaching, stronger career links, and a safe, supportive environment—helping every learner achieve their full potential.
