Removing barriers to learning
Our mission at Norton College is to provide educational, social and vocational skills to the most challenged and challenging young people. Our aim is to help with overcoming barriers to learning and we’re always proud of our students’ achievements and College exam results. We offer an alternative approach to education that is focused solely on outcomes for young people, built on the philosophy of kindness and warmth linked with compassion, and we’re committed to integrating students positively into society.
At Norton College, students are able to gain Functional Skills qualifications, GCSE qualifications plus an Open College Network certification. The College has also introduced in house certification for students who are working towards achieving Functional Skills.
Celebrating Achievements
Striving to achieve a high standard academic outcomes is important to us and we believe in celebrating students’ achievements with parents or carers and peers. This not only enables students to feel positive about their learning, but it also encourages them to build on their successes.
We’ve also created a ‘Proud Board’ at Norton College, where we post our students’ achievements for everyone to see and celebrate together.
Tewkesbury 2023-24
Maths
We had 22 students complete Functional Skills Maths, ranging from Entry 2 to Level 2. We also had 1 student achieve a pass at GCSE.
English
We had 19 student complete functional skills English, ranging from Entry 2 to Level 2. We also had 1 student achieve a pass at GCSE.
Personal Growth and Wellbeing
We had 14 students complete BTEC Level 1 Personal Growth and Wellbeing, ranging from Subsidiary Award to Extended Certificate.
We also had 1 student complete BTEC Level 1 Home Cooking Skills.

For Functional Skills Maths in 2021/22, 18 students achieved E1 to Level 2 qualifications.
Functional English
For Functional Skills English in 2021/22, 16 students achieved E1 to Level 1 qualifications

Between 2019-20, 67% of students took a formal assessment in maths at Norton College. 57% of students took a formal assessment in English at Norton College.
Functional Maths
For Functional Skills Maths in 2019/20, 21 students achieved E1 to E3, and those achieving E3 moved onto the Level 1 programme of study.
Functional English
For Functional Skills English in 2019/20, 17 students achieved E1 to E3 and those achieving E3 moved onto the Level 1 programme of study.
