Remembrance Day at Norton College Worcester
At our school, Remembrance Day is a time for reflection, compassion, and connection. We recognise that our pupils have diverse emotional needs, and we approach this day with sensitivity and care, ensuring that every child feels safe, supported, and included.
In the lead-up to November 11th, we gently introduce the significance of Remembrance through discussions on themes of peace, gratitude, and resilience using art, storytelling, and discussion. These are designed to be accessible and trauma-informed, allowing each child to engage in a way that feels comfortable and meaningful to them.
We have created a visual tribute this year, a powerful symbol of unity and remembrance, reflecting the voice and creativity of our school community and it was lovely to see some staff and students wearing their uniforms with such pride.
On the day itself, we held a 2-minute silence and listened to The Last Post. We provided opportunities for pupils and staff to share their thoughts. The atmosphere was calm and respectful with a focus on honouring the past while nurturing empathy and understanding in the present.
Remembrance Day at our school is not only about commemorating history — it’s about fostering a sense of belonging, emotional safety, and hope for the future.
