Careers Worcester and SENDIASS visit Norton College Worcester

It was a pleasure to welcome professionals from Worcester Careers Service and SENDIASS to speak to parents/carers and students.

The Supported Internship programme is for 16-25 year olds who have a EHCP and want to continue their learning alongside a work experience placement. In Worcestershire these internships are delivered by 5 organisations across the county and offer a high level of support, to help SEN students access the world of work.

The programme can be from 6 months to 1 year and cover academic study (30%) and work experience / life skills outside of the classroom (70%). They cover various work areas such as hospitals, retail, hospitality, horticulture, business and childcare. These allow students to look at specific career paths alongside trying possible new interests.

SENDIAS supported Careers Worcester at this event to ensure parents/carers and young people were aware of their remit and to explain how they can be accessed. They were also able to share information on SEN careers support and other organisations.

Parents/carers and students who attended the event were grateful for the up-to-date information given and the wealth of knowledge shared on the night. We have attached a copy of the PowerPoint from both Careers Worcester and SENDIAS in case any other parents / Carers or students want to gain the information.
