A Day to Remember at Norton College Worcester: Falcons, Owls and First‑Hand Flying Experiences!
Our students were thrilled to take part in an unforgettable on‑site falconry experience this week bringing the wonder of wildlife right into our school. The session introduced a range of birds of prey including an American Kestrel, a Barn Owl, and the awe‑inspiring Eurasian Eagle Owl which reminded our students of Harry Potter.
The visiting falconer engaged students with fascinating insights into the birds’ behavior, habitats and roles in the wild. Our students responded with impressive curiosity, asking thoughtful questions about conservation, natural predators, hunting habits and how these birds compare to some of the species we see here in the UK.
A real highlight was the opportunity for every student to handle each bird, a great experience for them. It was quite magical to see the Barn Owl flying straight from its perch onto their gloved hands.
Our students displayed exceptional respect and maturity throughout the session creating a calm, positive learning environment for everyone. This experience not only deepened our students understanding of wildlife and conservation but also created rich hands‑on memories that will hopefully continue to inspire curiosity and learning long after the day itself.
